My attempts at poetry and other cathartic writing

I found a old Nazareth College Gleaner newspaper April 29, 1986, with some of my ‘poems’ in it.

Someday

I’ll wake up

and find

that I have really changed

but

it will take a long time

a lot of pain

a lot of tears.

My friends helped me through it.

They may not know it

but

without them

I would be that scared child

huddled in a corner of my mind

in a wide world

of adults.

By 19 years of age

I’m supposed to be

grown

maybe physically

but who’s to say.

Mentally I’m still

a scared child.

I’m not ready

for some of the adult world.

My body says ‘yes!’

My soul says ‘no!’

My mind says ‘which?’

The growing pains

are killing

By 20 years of age

I’ve changed

a little

but mentally, spiritually

I’m still not ready.

Will I ever be?

Yes, in my own time.

My decision is made.

When it’s right

I’ll know.

Slowly, very slowly,

my mind is cathcing my body.

The growing pains are easing.

So your’re 20 years old,

who cares?

Who’s to say what you’re ready for?

Only you.

Who’s to say what you are?

Only you.

Who’s to say what you do?

Only you.

Who do you have to impress?

Only you.

Who do you have to live up to?

Only you.

So you’re 20 years old,

Who cares?
